With the recent events that have sent the world into shock, it is now more important than ever to be looking after our health as well as each other. At Prana we put great emphasis on wellbeing, and we believe that a vegan diet is optimal. With the ongoing problems that the Coronavirus is causing, is now the time that the world stopped eating animals?
It has been estimated that 75% of all new and emerging diseases come from animals (CDC) and Coronavirus (Covid19) is no exception. The suspected source of the virus is said to be from a “wet market” in Wuhan, China, where both live and dead animals are sold. Hygiene is a huge issue within these markets as animals are confined in small cages, making it easier for disease to spread.
The World Health Organisation have estimated the death toll to be 3.4%, a majority of whom will already have had underlying health conditions. Doctors at Harvard School of Public Health believe that over half of the global population could be diagnosed with Covid19 within the year. This could see the annual global death toll reach 186 million, three times the current rate.Whilst the government is advising us on how to avoid catching this disease, we need to look at how this could have been prevented to stop the next global pandemic.

The demand for meat is the reason why these markets exist and the cause of this lethal virus. We know that there is a high chance of this repeating if we do not make changes. Stay up to date with our blog for more posts concerning this issue.
